Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Lightning on winning the Stanley Cup. What a seres and what a season to remember!

Also congrats to the Dallas Stars who surprised me with their grit and veteran leadership.

How can we not mention Pat Maroon, who spent some time in the Devils organization and winning back-to-back Cups with St. Louis last year and with Tampa. A key depth player and acquisition for the Lightning.

I do want to acknowledge Blake Coleman, a third round, 75th overall draft pick by the Devils. Playing four seasons in New Jersey, Coleman brought grit, character, a few highlight reel goals, flashes of John Madden back in the Devils glory days and at times was counted on as a second liner to generate scoring for a lousy Devils. When he was traded to Tampa, it was a bitter sweet feeling as we got a very good return for sure, but we lost a key player that doesn't come around too often.

I was very happy to see him score the second goal in last night's final game and eventually raise the Stanley Cup against his favorite childhood team, the Dallas Stars.

Congrats to Coleman!

Players like Coleman and Maroon are what Champions are made of.

Are there any players in the current Devils organization you see filling a Coleman-type shoes?
John Hayden and Kevin Rooney come to mind, but not close in my opinion.

The Devils will need to go into free agency to find a similar character guy which every team needs regardless.
From the anticipated UFA list, I could see the Devils show some interest in Pat Maroon (he will likely re-sign with a contended and try to be a back-to-back-to-back Cup Champion - as hard as that is), Erik Haula and Nate Thompson type players to fill that void.

Who do you think will eventually fill a Blake Coleman type role?

Truly yours,
