Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Going forward, I’ll be transitioning the poll review articles into weekly recaps. These will include not only the poll results but also a quick recap of any news concerning the Carolina Hurricanes from that week.
Here are the notable updates.
OILERS INTERESTED IN MRAZEK
The Edmonton Oilers have shown interest in Petr Mrazek, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun. That said, Mrazek isn’t the team’s first choice.
HURRICANES TALKING EXTENSION WITH SVECHNIKOV
According to multiple outlets, Don Waddell said that the Hurricanes have opened talks with forward Andrei Svechnikov regarding an extension. Svechnikov will be a restricted free agent next summer.
UPDATE ON FREDERIK ANDERSEN CONVERSATIONS WITH LEAFS
Aaron Ward reportedly noted that the Hurricanes and Leafs were in conversation about a possible trade involving Frederik Andersen but Dougie Hamilton was an ask for the Leafs. Obviously, the Hurricanes wouldn’t include Hamilton in that deal.
A FORWARD IS LIKELY THE TARGET WITH THE 13TH-OVERALL PICK
According to Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer, General Manager Don Waddell said the team will be looking to add offense with their first-round pick. It’s not a surprise by any means, but it’s interesting to hear it confirmed.
As for the poll review, here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out:
QUESTION: Would you be in favour of the Hurricanes targeting Anton Khudobin in free agency?

No: 59%
Yes: 41%
I was a bit surprised to see the results here. To me, Khudobin is a great fit because he’ll come on a relatively short-term deal and a low enough AAV. He’s shown that he’s worthy of a starting role and if he was to hit the market, he could help to solve Carolina’s issues in net.
QUESTION: If they were somehow both still available, who would you rather the Hurricanes pick?

Yaroslav Askarov: 74%
Anton Lundell: 26%
I have to agree here. Askarov is being regarded as one of the top goalie prospects of the last decade and if the Hurricanes have a chance to find a long-term solution in net, they need to take it.
QUESTION: Which player would you be happy with at 13th overall?

Neither: 50%
Dawson Mercer: 35%
Dylan Holloway: 12%
Both: 4%
While I’d rather the Hurricanes avoid taking Holloway, but I wouldn’t be opposed to Mercer. Either way, neither Holloway or Mercer would be my ideal pick to be taken with the 13th-overall pick.
QUESTION: Which player would you be happy with at 13th overall?

Seth Jarvis: 50%
Neither: 33%
Connor Zary: 14%
Both: 3%
I’m a big fan of Seth Jarvis and to me, he may be the best player available when it’s Carolina’s turn to pick. He’s a hardworking, well-rounded player with a high ceiling and he could be a long-term fit in Carolina’s top-six.
