The Anaheim Ducks made some moves in free agency last week, completed a trade and also made several selections in the NHL Draft. Here are the notable updates:
DUCKS SELECT EIGHT PLAYERS IN NHL DRAFT
The Anaheim Ducks selected eight players in this year’s NHL draft, including first-round picks Jamie Drysdale and Jacob Perreault. You can read more about the selections

ANAHEIM SIGNS SHATTENKIRK, GRANT AND OTHERS
In free agency, the Ducks signed defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and also brought back forward Derek Grant. They also made minor moves, signing the following players: Chase De Leo, Maxim Golod, Vinni Lettieri, Andrew Poturalski and Andy Welinski.
DUCKS TRADE ERIK GUDBRANSON TO SENATORS
In Anaheim’s only somewhat major trade of the week, the Ducks sent Erik Gubranson to Ottawa, in exchange for a fifth-round pick. You can read more about the trade

As for last week’s polls, here are the results and my thoughts on how they turned out:
QUESTION: Were you happy with the Ducks selecting Jamie Drysdale with the sixth-overall pick?

Yes: 95%
No: 5%
I figured there would be a good chance that the Ducks take Drysdale if he was still available at sixth overall and I certainly think it was the right move. He projects as a potential top-pairing defenseman and he’s exactly what the Ducks need.
QUESTION: Were you happy with Anaheim's picks in rounds 2-7?

Yes: 86%
No: 14%
I can’t personally comment much, based on how little I’ve seen of anyone Anaheim drafted after the first round. At least on a statistical basis, the picks made sense.
QUESTION: Are you happy with the decision to trade Erik Gudbranson for a fifth-round pick?
(Votes: 135)
Yes: 71%
No: 29%
I certainly wasn’t unhappy with the trade originally, however, after the Shattenkirk signing, dealing Gudbranson made a lot more sense. The Ducks cleared cap space for an upgrade and got a pick back in the process.
QUESTION: Did you like the decision for the Ducks to sign Shattenkirk at a $3.9 million AAV for three years?

While Shattenkirk has his flaws, I see this as a huge win for the Ducks, despite how a good chunk of readers felt. He’s a clear upgrade and his deal carries a reasonable AAV on a pretty decent term.
