Hello All,

Taking a look at more transactions in the last decade...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 5th, 2014 (2013-2014 SEASON TRADE DEADLINE)

Washington Capitals Acquire:
- Jaroslav Halak - $3.75 million AAV
- 3rd Round Pick

Buffalo Sabres Acquire:
- Michal Neuvirth · $2,400,000
- Rostislav Klesla · $2,975,000

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 1st 2014 (OFFSEASON)

Washington Capitals Acquire:
- 2014 4th round pick (CHI - #118 - Igor Shesterkin)

New York Islanders Acquire:
- Jaroslav Halák · $3,750,000

*At the time of acquiring Halak in March of 2014, the Capitals sat 10th in the eastern conference. The move was to provide goaltending depth. McPhee said Holtby and Halak would split time 50-50. The Capitals fought hard but ultimately missed the playoffs by three points. At the conclusion of the season, the Capitals were able to flip Halak for a 4th rounder from the NYI. Eventually the 4th rounder would get dealt to the Rangers who would select it on their present franchise goalie, Igor Shesterkin. During the same draft, the Capitals would trade up in the 2nd round to select Vitek Vanecek. I didn’t realize Shesterkin was a 4th rounder until now.

March 1st 2015 (2014-2015 TRADE DEADLINE)

Washington Capitals Acquire:
-Curtis Glencross

Calgary Flames Acquire:
-2015 2nd round pick (WSH - #52 - Jérémy Lauzon)
-2015 3rd round pick (WSH - #83 - Jens Looke)

*More draft picks for an aging rental player. Glencross was largely a bust for Washington. Fun fact about Glencross: With the Capitals up 3-1 in the series against the NYR in the second round of the 2015 playoffs, Glencross scored on a breakaway to put the Caps 2-1 late in the third. For a brief moment in time, he was the hero that stepped up in the clutch and finally send the Capitals to the Eastern Conference championships! Unfortunately for Glencross, the game went to OT on a late Chris Kreider goal. To make matter worse for Glencross he was had a terrible turnover in the neutral zone in OT that directly led to the Rangers GWG seconds later. The Caps lost the game and eventually lost the series in game seven. It was Glencross’ last run at a Cup as he officially retired later that offseason. Ouch.

June 27th, 2015 (2015 NHL DRAFT)

Washington Capitals Acquire
-2015 2nd round pick (MTL - #57 - Jonas Siegenthaler)

New York Rangers Acquire:
-2015 4th round pick (WSH - #113 - Brad Morrison)
-2015 3rd round pick (BUF - #62 - Robin Kovacs)

*The Capitals see a defensive prospect they like and trade up for Siegenthaler. Jonas Siegenthaler played 64 games for the Caps last season and average right around 15min TOI per game. He is presently on the third defensive pairing but the future is bright for him in Washington.

July 2nd, 2015 (OFFSEASON AFTER BLOWING A 3-1 SERIES LEAD IN THE 2ND ROUND)

Washington Capitals Acquire:
-T.J. Oshie · $4,175,000

St. Louis Blues Acquire:
-Troy Brouwer · $3,666,667
-Pheonix Copley · $705,000
-2016 3rd round pick (WSH - #87 - Garrett Pilon)

*What else needs to be said here? The Capitals made a power move for Oshie! The Troy Brouwer experiment didn’t work in Washington and the Capitals made a play for the trendy T.J. Oshie. Having only been one year removed from the famous USA vs Russia game, Oshie was still a very buzz-worthy player to watch. The deal has more than worked out in the Capitals favor. Oshie has been one of most consistent players on the team since the deal.

Next up, we will look at the primary trades made in the last five seasons. The Capitals have the most points since 2015-2016 at 537 points total. Surely they have made some interesting moves!

Thanks for reading!
