The Carolina Hurricanes made some minor moves this week, re-signing a couple of players. Here are this week's updates:
HURRICANES RE-SIGN HAYDN FLEURY AND MAX MCCORMICK
The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed defenseman Haydn Fleury and forward Max McCormick this week. Fleury’s deal is two years and carries a $1.3 million AAV, while McCormick’s contract is one year and is worth $700,000.
JARVIS, REES AND SUZUKI INVITED TO TEAM CANADA’S WJC SELECTION CAMP
Carolina Hurricanes prospects Seth Jarvis, Jamieson Rees and Ryan Suzuki have been invited to Team Canada’s selection camp for the 2021 World Juniors. None of the three forwards were members of last year’s team.
As for last week’s polls, here are the results and my thoughts on how they turned out:
QUESTION: Do you think the Hurricanes will trade Ryan Dzingel in the offseason?
(Votes: 144)
Yes: 59%
No: 41%
I think the Hurricanes will certainly try to move Dzingel, based on how many top-nine forwards they have on their roster at the moment. That being said, if they are able to move him, it’s unlikely they’re going to get any significant assets back for Dzingel.
QUESTION: Do you think Gustav Forsling will earn a roster spot with the Hurricanes for the 2020-21 season?

No: 71%
Yes: 29%
While Forsling isn’t likely to get a spot in the lineup, I think it’s possible he could become a spare on the roster next season. He has NHL experience and at 24 years old, it may be more worthwhile to keep him as a spare, rather than sending him back to the AHL.
QUESTION: What do you think Seth Jarvis' role will be in Carolina's lineup long-term?

Top-six forward: 59%
Middle-six forward: 26%
Doesn’t make/stay in the NHL: 10%
Bottom-six forward: 6%
While you can’t really ever be certain on how a prospect may develop, I don’t have much of a doubt that Jarvis will become a top-six forward in the NHL. In my opinion, he may also be closer to competing for a spot with the Hurricanes than some might project.
QUESTION: Do you like Haydn Fleury’s new contract with the Hurricanes?

Yes: 94%
No: 6%
As I said in a recent article, $1.3 million on a two-year deal is a steal for Fleury. He’s likely to play on the bottom pairing next season but will certainly take on a larger role than he did last season.
QUESTION: Will Haydn Fleury develop into a top-four defenseman?
(Votes: 64)
Yes: 83%
No: 17%
Fleury took a big step in his development this year and certainly seems to be on pace to turn into a full-time top-four NHL defenseman. The question is whether or not he’ll get that chance with the Hurricanes, given their defensive depth.
QUESTION: Who is most likely to make Team Canada's WJC roster?
(Votes: 81)
Ryan Suzuki: 48%
Seth Jarvis: 43%
Jamieson Rees: 9%
The vote overwhelmingly favours Suzuki and Jarvis and while both are strong candidates to make the roster, I think Rees has a good shot at it as well. He had 61 points in 39 OHL games with the Sarnia Sting last year and is likely to have another dominant year in junior this season.
