Quick Hits: Nov. 5, 2020

1) ICMYI: Yesterday, top Flyers forward prospect Morgan Frost was the special guest of host Jason Myrtetus on the Wednesday edition of Flyers Daily on the Flyers Broadcast Network. Today on the Flyers official website, we will have an in-depth look at Frost's preparations for training camp and what he considers his most valuable learning experiences from his rookie pro season and the Bubble in Toronto.

In addition, Linus Sandin checked in from Sweden to discuss with Myrtetus his SHL season to date and anticipation of his first NHL training camp.

2) Today, Flyers Charities will hold an in-person presentation outside the Wells Fargo Center, in conjunction with Help Hope Live: 11-year-old muscular dystrophy patient Jackson Epstein, a diehard young Flyers fan, will receive a customized Flyers-themed bicycle that he will be able to operate. Jackson was born with a rare congenital form of MD called Central Core Disease. Flyers community development director/ Flyers Alumni president Brad Marsh (an avid cyclist) will be on hand for the presentation, along with Ambassador of Hockey Bob Kelly and Gritty.

3) Today in Flyers History: November 5

1967: One night after stunning the Montreal Canadiens at the Forum, the Flyers rematch with the Habs at the Spectrum. In a battle of Hall of Fame goalies, Bernie Parent (30 saves on 31 shots) and Lorne "Gump" Worsley (22 saves on 23 shots) duel to a 1-1 deadlock. Ed Hoekstra scores the lone Philadelphia goal. Yvon Cournoyer notches the only Montreal score.

1995: With Eric Lindros out of the lineup due to a low-bridge hit by Florida Panthers' defenseman Jason Woolley. In Lindros' absence, Flyers head coach Terry Murray substituted Anatoli Semenov on the top line. On this night, it was the "Mikael Renberg Show" at the Spectrum in a 6-1 rout of the Hartford Whalers. The Legion of Doom right winger scored his ninth and10th goals of the season -- including a perfectly placed water-bottle flipper on a blast from the right circle -- and later sets up linemate John LeClair for his 10th goal of the season. The Flyers also got goal support for Garth Snow (21 saves) from fourth-line center Craig MacTavish, third-line right winger Rob DMaio and callup forward Russ Romaniuk.

2002: Second period goals by Justin Williams and former Flyers center Rod Brind'Amour sent Philadelphia and the host Carolina Hurricanes to a 1-1 tie through regulation. In overtime, John LeClair won the game for the Flyers with his eighth goal of the season. Roman Cechmanek stopped 17 of 18 shots to earn the win.

2005: Simon Gagne recorded his second career hat trick and linemate Peter Forsberg collected a goal and two assists to supply all the offense for Philadelphia in a 4-3 home win over the Atlanta Thrashers. On the same night, the team welcomed Bill Logan of Langhorne, PA as the 25 millionth fan to attend a Flyers home game. Logan was showered with confetti and personally greeted by Ed Snider.

2011: The host Flyers humiliated the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets by a 9-2 score. The game was 5-0 by the end of the first period and 8-0 by the second intermission. Jakub Voracek (one goal, one assist) enjoys a multi-point game against his former club and rookie Sean Couturier scored a pair of goals. Seven different Flyers tallied at least once. Future Flyers netminder Steve Mason got strafed for seven of the nine goals, but most were the direct product of poor play in front of him.

2018: Two goals and an assist by Claude Giroux spearheaded a 5-2 road win over the Coyotes. Sean Couturier notched a goal and an assist. In the best performance of his brief and largely unsuccesful Flyers stint, goalie Cal Pickard turned back 34 of 36 shots.

2019: A 33-save performance by goalie Carter Hart backstopped the Flyers to a 4-1 home win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Three goals in the third period sealed the win for the Flyers. Sean Couturier, Travis Konecny, Joel Farabee and Claude Giroux provided the goal support for Hart.

4) Nov. 5 Flyers Alumni birthdays: Mark Suzor (1956), Nikolay Zherdev (1984).
