November days are dragging on with no start to the NHL calendar in sight…yet. It was announced this week that the NBA will kick off it’s season on December 22nd without any bubbles and the corporate boxes will be available to fans. With the NFL in full swing and the NBA getting in on the action, hopefully the NHL brain trust gets things on the rail and we get our favourite sport back sooner rather than later. It’s kind of annoying that on the year where Bergevin has had perhaps his best and most active offseason, we have to wait to see what happens when this new look team hits the ice.
After Kotkaniemi and Ylonen resuming play with their respecting Finnish teams, the Canadiens have now announced that Josh Brook will be loaned to the Krefeld Pinguine of the DEL (the German top league). Looking at their line-up, the only former North American pro hockey player I spotted was Lucas Lessio who played 12 games with the Habs back in 2015-2016 and 18 games with the St. John’s Ice Caps (the former Rocket). Since then, he’s made stops in the KHL, the Swedish league, the Finnish league, the Czech league before landing in the DEL. As for Alexandre Alain and Rafael Harvey-Pinard, they both stated that they felt comfortable training here in Quebec while they wait for the AHL to kick things off again.
As for Cole Caufield, he will play his first game of the season with the Wisconsin Badgers on November 13th and he’ll play in another 11 contests until December 9th. Right now, the Big Ten has only released a partial schedule but it’s better than nothing. For those interested, last season, the Badgers were streaming games on their Facebook page, hopefully, they will do it again this season, fingers crossed.
I spoke about the Hockey Fight Cancer initiative in my last blog, since then the Habs have announced that 10% of the proceeds of sales made of Hockey Fight Cancer items on Tricolore Sports with be donated to Leucan.
Les jours sombres de novembre se succède et nous ne savons toujours pas quand le calendrier de la LNH commencera… Mais, cette semaine, la NBA a annoncé qu’elle reprendrait ses activités le 22 décembre prochain sans ville bulle et avec les loges corporatives ouvertes aux spectateurs. Avec la NFL en pleine action et la NBA sur le point de reprendre, on peut espérer que les dirigeants de la LNH voudront mettre les choses sur les rails sous peu et que nous récupéreront enfin notre sport préféré. C’est vraiment dommage que l’année ou Bergevin connait probablement sa meilleure et plus active saison morte, nous devons attendre pour voir ce que sa formation nouveau look peut faire sur la glace.

En regardant leur formation, je ne vois qu’un seul nom d’ancien joueur professionnel nord-américain (que je connaisse du moins) Lucas Lessio qui a joué 12 matchs avec les Habs en 2015-2016 et 18 matchs avec les Ice Caps de St. John’s (l’ancien Rocket) la même année. Depuis, il a fait des arrêts dans la KHL, la ligue de Suède, la ligue de Finlande, la ligue Tchèque avant d’atterrir en Allemagne. Pour ce qui est d’Alexandre Alain et de Raphael Harvey-Pinard, ils ont tous les deux dit dans leur disponibilité médiatique qu’ils se sentaient confortable de continuer à s’entraîner au Québec en attendant la reprise des activités dans la AHL.
Pour ce qui est de Cole Caufield, il jouera son premier match de la saison avec les Badgers de l’université du Wisconsin le 13 novembre et prendra part à 11 autres joutes d’ici le 9 décembre. Pour l’instant, le Big Ten n’a dévoilé qu’un calendrier partiel mais c’est définitivement mieux que rien. Pour les intéressés, l’an dernier, les Badgers diffusaient leurs matchs en direct sur leur page Facebook, je me croise les doigts pour qu’ils le fassent encore cette année.
