Quick Hits: November 13, 2020

1) On today's edition of Flyers Daily, host Jason Myrtetus and I discuss return-to-play scenarios for the NHL's 2020-21 season. Jason and I also discuss the Flyers Hall of Fame and preview Flyers Hall of Fame week on Flyers Daily and the Flyers' official website. Earlier this week, Jason had a conversation with Brian Boucher about offseason preparations for goaltenders, which are a bit more challenging than normal this year without a definitive timetable yet for when training camp and the eventual regular season will begin.

2) Per TSN, Flyers captain Claude Giroux is one of 16 players on the NHLPA's joint return-to-play committee with the NHL. During the spring and summer, Flyers left winger James van Riemsdyk served on the committee.

3) Add Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov to the ranks of Philadelphia players working out daily at the SkateZone in Voorhees. He joins Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Samuel Morin, Tanner Laczysnki amd Carsen Twarynski who are staying local to get ready for training camp.

4) Yesterday, the Ivy League announced the cancelation of all winter sports for 2020. This affects one Flyers prospect: Yale junior defenseman Jack St. Ivany. Yale recently had a large-scale COVID-19 outbreak on the team. The affected athletes will not lose a year of NCAA eligibility. However, it does complicate the athletic scholarships for those who wish to compete during a fifth year of undergraduate education.

5) In better news, the Hockey East regular season will get underway on Fri., Nov. 20. Incoming Boston University sophomore forward Jay O'Brien, a Flyers' 2018 first-round pick, will pay his first game on Dec. 4. against the University of Vermont.

6) Nov. 13 in Flyers History:

1986: At the expense of his former team, Murray Craven recorded the first hat trick of his career in a 7-5 win over the Detroit Red Wings at the Spectrum.

1991: In a swap of productive and popular plays in need of a change of scenery, the Philadelphia Flyers traded Murray Craven to the Hartford Whalers for Kevin Dineen. The Flyers also included a 1992 fourth-round pick (Kevin Smyth) in the deal.

2006: The Flyers reacquired fan favorite tough guy Todd Fedoruk. Philadelphia sent a 2007 fourth-round pick (Justin Vaive) to the Anaheim Ducks.

2010: The Flyers announced the signing of Jeff Carter to an 11-year, $58 million ($5.27 million cap hit) contract extension. After the 2010-11 season and before a no-trade clause was eligible to kick in under CBA rules, the Flyers traded Carter to Columbus in the deal that brought Jakub Voracek, a 2011 first-round pick (Sean Couturier) and a 2011 third-round pick (Nick Cousins) to Philadelphia.

2013: One night after Steve Mason shut out the Ottawa Senators on the road, the Flyers continued their climb out of an early-season hole by going into Pittsburgh and claiming a 2-1 regulation win over the Penguins. Ray Emery (30 saves) was brilliant in goal, and Brayden Schenn scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season on even strength and power play goals.

2018: A 30-save performance by Roberto Luongo, including 16 saves in the third period, was just enough for Florida to hold off the host Flyers, 2-1. Jakub Voracek broke up Luongo's shutout bid but the Flyers could not find an equalizer after trailing 2-0.

2019: A stellar 35-save game by Carter Hart enabled the Flyers to earn a point against the Washington Capitals -- the first time since the opening week of the regular season that the Caps had been held under three goals -- but the Flyers sustain a 2-1 home shootout loss. A third-period power play goal by Claude Giroux was the lone Flyers tally.

8) Nov. 13 Flyers Alumni birthdays:

* Forward Rene Drolet, who suited up for the Flyers in the final game of the 1971-72 season, was born on Nov. 11, 1944 in Quebec City, Quebec.

* The late Wayne Hillman, the younger of the two Hillman brothers who played for the Flyers, was born on November 13, 1937 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
