After teasing fans with the release of a teaser last week, Adidas is set to unveil its full Reverse Retro line tomorrow. Over the past week, each team has released pictures of part of the jersey but not the whole thing. Today, the Habs tweeted this:
Now, we already knew that it was going to be a blue jersey, Adidas’ teaser was quite clear about that, but these 3 little images tell us more. The 76 in the collar reveals that for the Canadiens, the inspiration for the Reverse Retro look will be the uniform the team wore in 1976, why that year? Well, you might remember that the best season the Canadiens ever played was the 1976-1977 one when they set an NHL record with 132 points. They also put the icing on the cake winning their 20th Stanley Cup during that year and they had arguably their best line-up ever. Those were the days of the Big 3, of Flower, the Roadrunner, Steve Shutt , Bob Gainey, the legendary Ken Dryden in goal and the equally legendary Scotty Bowman behind the bench. If you’re going to go back in time, why not go back to that golden era which included 4 consecutive cups?
Plus, this also means that as well as having inverted colours, the players’ number on the arms should be in the red stripe since it was in the blue stripe back in the days. This will make the jersey a little bit more different than just the colours change. For those up in arms about the Canadiens having a “Leafs jersey”, let’s not forget that the Habs did wear a blue jersey before the Leafs were even born. Besides, this is Habs’ blue, a marine like blue and not a Leafs’ blue. I’ll admit, I’m intrigued, and I’ll more than likely be buying one of those jerseys.
As for Cole Caufield, his Badgers started their season with a pair of wins over the Notre-Dame Fighting Irish. They were victorious 2-0 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday. Over the two match-ups, Caufield nabbed a pair of assist, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Watching him skate though, it’s evident that the man is a goal scorer he spends all of his time on the ice trying to get in scoring position while shaking off his coverage. In Saturday’s game though, it was another Habs prospect who ended up being the 3rd star of the game, since Jack Gorniak got himself a pair of assists in the big win. Gorniak was a 4th round pick for the Habs back in 2018 (123rd overall) and currently plays on the Badgers’ 4th line. As for Caufield, he was hit up high late in the game, stayed on the ice for a few minutes but was able to go back to the bench on his own two feet and was back on the ice minutes later.
Après avoir taquiné les fans la semaine dernière, Adidas révèlera officiellement sa ligne reverse Retro demain. Au cours de la dernière semaine, chaque équipe a publié des photos de parties de leur futur chandail. Aujourd’hui, le CH a tweeté ceci:
Nous savions déjà que le chandail allait être bleu, le video d’Adidas était clair là-dessus, mais ces 3 petites images nous en disent plus. Le 76 dans le collet révèle que pour les Canadiens, le look Reverse Retro sera basé sur l’uniforme que l’équipe portait en 1976, pourquoi cette année-là? Vous vous souviendrez probablement que la meilleure saison que le CH ait joué à vie était en 1976-1977 quand ils ont établi un record avec 132 points. Ils avaient même mis la cerise sur le sundae en remportant leur 20e coupe Stanley cette année-là et ils avaient ce qu’on pourrait qualifier de leur meilleur alignement. C’était l’époque du Big 3, du démon blond, du Roadrunner, Steve Shutt, Bob Gainey, le légendaire Ken Dryden dans les buts et le tout aussi légendaire Scotty Bowman derrière le banc. Tant qu’à revenir dans le passé, pourquoi ne pas retourner à cette période dorée qui incluait 4 coupes consécutives?
De plus, cela veut aussi dire qu’en plus des couleurs inversées, le numéro des joueurs sur les bras du chandail devrait être dans la bande de couleur puisqu’il se trouvait dans la bande bleue à l’époque. Ça rendra le chandail un peu plus spécial et différent. Pour ceux qui crient déjà haut et fort que le CH ne devrait pas avoir un “chandail des Leafs”, n’oubliez pas que le CH a eu un chandail bleu avant même que l’équipe de Toronto voit le jour. On peut aussi ajouter que c’est un chandail couleur bleu Habs, donc marine et non pas plus pâle comme celui des Leafs. Je l’admets, le nouveau chandail m’intrigue et c’est plus que probable que je commanderai l’un de ces nouveaux chandails.
Quant à Cole Caufield, ses Badgers ont commencé leur saison avec 2 victoires sur les Fighting Irish de Notre-Dame. Ils ont été victorieux 2-0 vendredi et 5-3 samedi. Au cours des deux matchs, Caufield a amassé deux aides mais n’a pas trouvé le fond du filet. À le voir patiner par contre, c’est évident que ce joueur est un marqueur, il passe son temps sur la patinoire à tenter de se mettre en position de marquer et à échapper à son couvreur. Dans le match de Samedi, c’est un autre Espoir du CH qui s’est retrouvé avec la 3e étoile du match, puisque Jack Gorniak a inscrit deux passes dans la victoire. Gorniak a été un choix de 4e ronde du CH en 2018 (123e au total) et joue présentement sur le 4e trio des Badgers. Moment inquiétant pour Cole Caufield en fin de match quand il a reçu un coup à la tête et s’est retrouvé au sol pour quelques minutes avant de regagner le banc. Heureusement, il était de retour sur la glace quelques minutes plus tard.
