Completely Disagreeing With Kevin Allen's Rule Change; Tues Buzzcast

Kevin Allen in his last blog proposed a rule change that both he and Tom Laidlaw feel is an absolute no-brainer...eliminating the ability for the shorthanded team to ice the puck freely. You should for sure read his blog for his reasoning, but I will now give you my reasoning as to why I feel this is a terrible idea....there are way more obvious and needed rule changes....(my #1 rule change idea in the next blog)

Why eliminating the free icing for short-handed teams is a bad idea...

#1. Rhythm.
The excitement and roar of the crowd when the home team steals the puck and sends it is one of the iconic underrated moments in the course of a game. The icings are followed by the excitement of the power play team working the puck up the ice.

#2. Line Changes.
In order for both teams to get new players on the ice and keep the power play exciting with fresh legs we need the breath the icings give...

#3. The balance of momentum....The power play needs to continue to be a momentum changer. Scoring on the power play keeps the team that took the penalty honest. You are going to be more reluctant to take a penalty if you are scored on. And the NHL wants more scoring, but thinking that taking away the icing makes the game better ignores the even less considered aspect of the game... When a team can't score on their power plays it becomes a huge mental issue for that team...That part of the game makes things interesting....makes series interesting in general..

What are your thoughts? Get rid of the icing exemption or keep it?
