Skarek is coming off a fairly underwhelming 2019-20 season, which he split between the AHL and ECHL. With Bridgeport (AHL), Skarek posted just an .888 save percentage in 16 games, while his numbers were even worse with Worcester (ECHL), posting a brutal .879 save percentage in 14 games.
That said, before coming to North America, Skarek did spend time in Finland’s highest professional league, where he managed a .906 save percentage in 22 games. Hopefully, time overseas will help him to find his groove. He’s still just 21 years old and while the Islanders are set in goal right now, it never hurts to have another quality netminder in the pipeline.
