Hello All,

As I am sure you are all already aware, the NHL released the new Retro jersey designs this week. Some are great, and some did not live up to expectations. I personally love the Capitals Jersey, but did you really expect me to say otherwise? Today we will take a brief look at the Capitals Jersey and a little bit on the meaning. I will also share how I ranked the jerseys.

Here is the Capitals Reveal:

This was a pretty safe retro design. It was either going to be the screaming eagle or the Capital building logo that is currently located on the shoulder patch. The screaming eagle is great. The diagonal lines and design give it a very honest retro look and feel. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The Capital building logo with a present-day Caps color scheme would have been pretty freaking awesome too. Add a screaming eagle shoulder patch on that, epic!

1. Arizona Coyotes – I LOVE this purple. Something about this jersey just speaks to me. I love the gecko patch too.

2. Calgary Flames

3. Colorado Avalanche – they paid homage to when the franchise was previously located in Quebec and known as the Quebec Nordiques. The maroon color was present day avalanche team colors blends well with the white. Well done!

4. Minnesota Wild

5. Montreal Canadiens – I have read this year pays homage to the 76-77 team which is one of the best of all time. The blue also just looks really slick.

6. Washington Capitals

7. New York Rangers

8. Carolina Hurricanes

9. Florida Panthers

10. LA Kings

11. New Jersey Devils

12. Anaheim Ducks

13. St. Louis Blues

14. Edmonton Oilers

15. Tampa Bay Lightning

16. Philadelphia Flyers

17. Buffalo Sabres

18. Vancouver Canucks

19. Columbus Blue Jackets

20. San Jose Sharks

21. Boston Bruins

22. Ottowa Senators

23. Vegas Golden Knights

24. Toronto Maple Leafs

25. Chicago Blackhawks

26. New York Islanders – A tribute to the 1980 squad and beginning of a dynasty. They won four straight Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1984. I actually love that aspect, but the jersey is just…plain. I would have liked to at least see the 95-97 logo as a patch.

27. Nashville Predators – This like some of the other teams around this range just didn’t much. They had chance to be creative but played it real safe. Very slight differences between these jerseys and present-day ones. This predators jersey is a 1998 throwback. The skull shoulder patch is actually pretty cool and if I did a separate “patch” rankings, this would be in the top ten easy.

28. Winnipeg Jets

29. Dallas Stars

30. Detroit Red Wings – I am not a fan of this much white. Both the Wings and the Stars look like slightly redesigned 2020 All-Star Jerseys

31. Pittsburgh Penguins – Just kidding! I don’t actually hate this one but for the sake of the rivalry I can’t rank this any higher. It's really in the middle of the pack. I was hoping for something similar the same design but in powder blue from their inaugural season. The penguin logo from 1993-2002 would have also been cool. Color wise either the traditional Penguins colors or powder blue work.
