We have a date. January 13, 2021 begins the next season of NHL hockey. Expect a schedule soon as the teams scramble to get their players back to their markets and the league tries to get approval from three Canadian provinces to allow games to be played.

That is the big question mark so far. If the NHL can’t et approval from these provincial governments, they will be forced to have the seven Canadian teams play at neutral sites in the US. Certainly not optimal for these seven teams, but it may be the only way.

The Nashville Predators remain in the Central Division and will play the following teams eight times each, Carolina, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Florida and Tampa Bay for 56 game schedule. The [;ayoffs will be a throwback to the 80’s with no wild cards… one plays four, two plays three, winner play for the division title.

It is a recipe for some nasty rivalries to enhance or develop. I am curious to see how the schedule plays out. Does the NHL try to limit travel by doing 2 or 3 game series in each market? Ticket sales won’t be a part of the scenario there… at least at the beginning of the season. It might be a smart way to limit travel,

An early holiday gift for hockey fans… now let’s see the schedule!
