The Avalanche on Saturday released their 40-man training camp roster for the upcoming season.

It includes 22 forwards, 14 defensemen and four goalies.

Coach Jared Bednar will address the media on a Zoom call Sunday. On-ice workouts begin Monday at the Family Sports Center in Centennial. Spectators won’t be allowed because of COVID-19 restrictions.

The significant newcomers are forward Brandon Saad and defenseman Devon Toews.

Saad was acquired with defenseman Dennis Gilbert from Chicago on Oct. 10 in the trade that sent defensemen Nikita Zadorov and Anton Lindholm to the Blackhawks.

Toews was acquired from the New York Islanders on Oct. 12 for second-round draft picks in the 2021 and 2022 NHL drafts. He signed a four-year, $16.4 million contract on Oct. 27.

Defenseman Bowen Byram, the team’s first-round pick (No. 4) in 2019, will arrive after the World Junior Championship in Edmonton. He’s a co-captain for Team Canada.

Others in camp include forward Shane Bowers, who was acquired from the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 5, 2017 in the Matt Duchene trade; defenseman Kyle Burroughs, acquired from the Islanders on Oct. 11 for forward A.J. Greer; forward Martin Kaut, a first-round pick (No. 16) in 2018; and defenseman Conor Timmins, a second-round pick (No. 32) in 2017.

Philipp Grubauer and Pavel Francouz return in goal, joined in camp by Hunter Miska and Adam Werner.

The Avalanche open their 56-game schedule (no preseason games) Jan. 13 against St. Louis at Ball Arena (8:30 p.m. MT, NBCSN).
