The Toronto Maple Leafs received the final approval to play their 28 home games at Scotiabank Arena from the Ontario Provincial Government.

“In consultation with Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and with support from local medical officers of health in Ottawa and Toronto, I am pleased to share that both of Ontario’s NHL teams, the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs, will be able to host home games against other Canadian teams in their respective arenas this season.” Ontario’s Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Minister Lisa MacLeod said.

This approval was granted after close scrutiny of the rigorous health and safety protocols that will be adopted to keep players, staff, and our communities safe from the spread of COVID-19 while permitting Ontario’s NHL teams to play the game we all love to watch.”

The Leafs will begin the 56-game regular season next Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens, but after the Ontario government gave their clearance announced the annual Blue vs. White game will be held at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night and will be simulcast on Sportsnet and TSN.

“We are thankful to have the approval of all government branches and health authorities to begin our season at Scotiabank Arena,” Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said. “We understand that these are very challenging times for our health systems, local businesses and the community at large. Though we will not be permitted to host fans at our games, we wanted to be able to include our fans in every way that we can, including our training camp festivities and the Blue vs White Game on Saturday night.”

The broadcast will have Joe Bowen doing play by play, two-time gold medalist and professional player Cheryl Pounder with color commentary; Marlies play by play man Todd Crocker between the benches and former Leaf blueliner Bob McGill as a rinkside analyst.
