The Devils look to bounce back after the opening night shootout loss to the Bruins.

Not much to update other than notables out, Hischier and Bratt along with super sniper Pastrnak out for the Bruins.

Will be very interesting to see how this team bounces back. They did get better as the game went on.

No starting goalie announce yet but expect Blackwood to step in again.
No word on Butcher, who I hope steps in for Tennyson.

Yesterday’s practice lines did not change (does t look good for Butcher stepping in).
I’ll update blog if I get updates before the game.

I expect a little rougher tilt today, as with many back to back and playing a team many times I a row, but the Bruins were vocal of their displeasure of the Devils crashing the net. Wood and Sharangovich, in particular. Expect a tone to be set by the Bruins early and if the Devils are smart convert those into penalties.

Other thoughts
We have heard PLD wants out of the Jackets. Not sure the Devils are a good trading partner as I expect Hughes to be part of whatever SJ they may have. Rumor has it that PLD wants Montreal as a destination so, at least for now, not worth spending time on what if scenarios.

No team Captain named yet. Not surprised.
Of the vets who could take on the “C” Palmieri and Zajac both have a high probability won’t be wearing a Devils sweater long term. My choice would have been Palmieri but with no long term contract in hand it is not a wise move.
Talks of Hischier taking on the “C” makes sense but in my opinion, why give the pressure of the “C” to a kid who is still trying to take a next step in his development and growth.

I also question the meaning of the honor. We are seeing younger and younger Captains.
Is it merely a symbolic gesture to be given the “C”? Is there a real locker room responsibility when the team needs a kick in the a$$? Will older players take any words of a 22 year old?

Afternoon tilt is always a good change of speed. Excited to see how the Devils and Bruins come out early. Could be a fun game to watch.
