The San Jose Sharks picked up their second win of the season last night, defeating the St. Louis Blues by a score of 2-1 in a shootout.

Martin Jones had a good game for the Sharks and has now been solid in two of his three starts. Jones was good when he needed to be and the goal he allowed was from a good location. He also went 4-for-4 against some very good players in the shootout. That said, his play wasn’t the story of the game.

The Sharks controlled the game in the third period, outshooting St. Louis 17-3 and despite not finding a goal, it was a really promising period for San Jose. They shut down chances for the Blues and had a few really good opportunities. The Sharks couldn’t secure the win in regulation or overtime but Tomas Hertl continued to be clutch, scoring the shootout winner.

It’s a little concerning that San Jose went 0-for-7 on the power play but they also didn’t give up a goal on any of St. Louis’ five power play chances, so we’ll call it even?

Overall, this was an important win for the Sharks. They beat a good team and played their most well-rounded game of the season.
