The Islanders did outshoot the Flyers 36-29 which was good to see, though Philadelphia arguably had more quality scoring chances. Defensively, the Islanders didn’t have a great night. They were giving up some really good chances, with the Flyers able to connect on quick passes, once set up in New York’s end. The Islanders have been uncharacteristically allowing great chances over the last few games and it’s been a major issue in their slide.
To Ilya Sorokin’s credit, he was able to make some really good saves while in movement and the goals he let in came from good locations or were difficult to stop. That said, his reaction time on shots was pretty slow. His movements to shots didn’t look great and in addition to the four goals, the Flyers also hit a bunch of posts.
The Islanders need to turn things around– and fast. They’re already losing ground in a competitive East Division and in a shortened season, this slide can’t last much longer.
