Koivu Announces Retirement |

Although he is no longer donning the Forest Green, Harvest Gold, and Iron Range Red of the Minnesota Wild, Mikko Koivu, will forever be known as the Captain here in the State of Hockey.
Bill Guerin made it clear to Mikko following last season that he was not in the Wild plans moving forward. Koivu not being quite ready to hang up the skates, signed a one year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets in an effort to compete for the elusive and coveted Stanley Cup to complete his NHL career.
That has now come to an end as Mikko has announced that he will retire from the game. Koivu stated that he felt that he could not compete at the level that he felt he needed to in order to be successful. That is something we in Minnesota have grown accustomed to over Mikko's 15 year Wild career.
Koivu was always the workhorse pro, who came to rink every day expecting nothing less than his best effort on and off the ice. Rather than compromise that and rest on the track record Koivu had established, he walks away with his head held high.
It is not the decision that anyone wanted to see, but at least Koivu made his own decision on his own terms.
We wish you well "Kap Finn", cheers on an outstanding career.
