The San Jose Sharks played three games this week and currently hold a 5-7-1 record. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.

SHARKS WIN ONE OF THREE GAMES

The Sharks picked up two of a possible six points this week, splitting a two-games series with the Los Angeles Kings, before losing 3-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights yesterday.

SHARKS RETURN TO SAP CENTER

The Sharks finally returned to the SAP Center for their game against Golden Knights yesterday. It was the first game the Sharks have played at their home rink since last March.

DUBNYK OUT

Devan Dubnyk is dealing with a lower-body injury and we have yet to learn when he’ll be able to return. In the meantime, Alexei Melnichuk was called up to the Sharks and made his NHL debut on Thursday, in relief of Martin Jones.

As for our poll questions this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: Do you feel as though Ryan Donato can be a long-term member of San Jose’s top-six?

(Votes: 34)

Yes: 91%
No: 9%

Donato is a very skilled player and when given players to work with, he can be a very effective forward. We’ve seen what he’s been able to do in a larger role and considering he’s only 24 years old, he could certainly have a future with the Sharks.

QUESTION: Erik Karlsson is off to the most disappointing start of any player on the Sharks:

(Votes: 22)

Agree: 91%
Disagree: 9%

Karlsson is the league’s highest-paid defenseman but has been the worst defender on the Sharks so far. If he can’t bounce back, the Sharks will have a pretty disastrous situation with Karlsson going forward, given that he’s locked in until 2027.
