A disastrous second period, including three Boston Bruins goals in the span of 99 seconds, turned a competitive hockey game into a rout as the Philadelphia Flyers went down to a 7-3 thrashing at the hands of the Boston Bruins in the NHL Outdoors event in Lake Tahoe on Sunday.

The Flyers played a strong first period, which went to intermission tied at 2-2 but with Philly largely accomplishing what they set out to do. The second period was a train wreck in every possible facet, and a deluge of four unanswered Boston goals turned the game into a rout. Each team scored once in a basically academic third period.

David Pastrnak recorded his second hat trick of the season against the Flyers (7th, 8th and 9th goals overall). Boston also got tallies from Charlie McAvoy (2nd), Charlie Coyle (3rd), Trent Frederic (1st), and Nick Ritchie (power play, 6th). Tuukka Rask stopped 16 of 19 Flyers shots.

James van Riemsdyk (PPG, 2a) figured in all three Flyers goals and earned the 500th point of his NHL career on the first Philadelphia goal. He now has eight goals on the season. Sean Couturier assisted on a Joel Farabee tally (8th) in the first period and then scored a go-ahead goal (3rd) to give the Flyers a very short-lived 2-1 lead. Kevin Hayes assisted on the Couturier and JVR goals.

Carter Hart struggled in two periods of work, stopping just 17 of 23 shots, of which three or even four looked like makeable saves. Hart has allowed 20 goals against the Bruins this season in going 0-2-2 (5.31 GAA, .843 SV%). Against the rest of the East Division he's allowed a combined 18 goals in seven games (5-1-1, 2.73 GAA, .919 SV%).

Brian Elliott came in for the third period, stopping 11 of 12 shots.
