The first two periods of the game were relatively even, with the teams trading chances for the most part. However, the Hurricanes were a complete mess in the third period, giving up tons of chances and getting completely outplayed. Alex Nedeljkovic had to come up with key saves just to keep the Hurricanes in the game.
Carolina was fairly lucky to be able to send the game to overtime, after being outplayed terribly in the third period and giving up some pretty avoidable chance. Jake Bean, while putting up very impressive numbers defensively, has continued to struggle in his own end, while Dougie Hamilton and Brady Skjei haven’t been great either.
The Hurricanes ended up getting outshot 46-31 in the win. That said, the key word there was ‘win’, as the Hurricanes found a way to get the two points.
Tonight, they face the Nashville Predators, who are having a poor start to the season, with a record below .500. Forward Teuvo Teravainen and defenseman Jake Gardiner are still out, while James Reimer is expected to start in net. The Hurricanes won their first meeting against the Predators earlier this season, by a score of 4-2.
