The Los Angeles Kings made another deal today, sending forward Michael Amadio to the Ottawa Senators, in exchange for defenseman Christian Wolanin.

Amadio has spent parts of the last four seasons with the Kings, totalling 16 goals and 39 points in 168 career games. He was originally drafted by the Kings in the third round of the 2014 NHL Draft and had two assists in 20 games this season.

Wolanin is a 26-year-old left-handed defenseman. He’s played 15 games with the Senators this season, tallying three assists while averaging just 13 minutes of ice time per game. He has one year remaining on his deal at $900,000 and will be a restricted free agent when it expires.

ANALYSIS

I like this trade for the Kings. While Amadio presented as a promising young forward a couple of years ago, he had been passed over in favour of other forwards and it was clear that he wasn’t going to be a long-term member of the team.

With Wolanin, the Kings get some defensive depth on the left side, meaning hopefully we see less of Kurtis MacDermid going forward.
