The New York Islanders made a final deal ahead of the trade deadline and also signed a prospect to an entry-level contract this week. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.

ISLANDERS WIN ONE OF THREE GAMES

The Islanders won one of their three games this week, dropping both games against the Boston Bruins, before defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 in overtime tonight.

COBURN ACQUIRED FROM SENATORS

New York made a final move ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring defenseman Braydon Coburn from the Ottawa Senators, in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2022. Coburn had a total of 980 games of NHL experience prior to joining the Islanders. New York had also previously acquired Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac from the New Jersey Devils, leading up to the deadline.

ADAMS SIGNS ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACT

The Islanders signed prospect Collin Adams to a two-year, entry-level deal this week, beginning in the 2021-22 season. The forward is turning 23 years old this month and has spent the last four years with the University of North Dakota.

As for our poll questions this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Do you like the Braydon Coburn trade for the Islanders?

(Votes: 335)

Yes: 61%
Don’t feel strongly either way: 26%
No: 14%

I was pretty indifferent to this trade overall. Coburn isn’t someone the Islanders should want playing a lot of games but it’s a small price to pay for defensive depth, while gearing up for a deep playoff run.

QUESTION: What do you think Collin Adams’ long-term role will be with the Islanders?

(Votes: 110)

Doesn’t make/stay in the NHL: 48%
Bottom-six forward: 42%
Top-six forward: 10%

Adams’ stats in the NCAA aren’t anything too wild, but it’ll be interesting to see how he fares in the AHL next season.
