The San Jose Sharks played four games last week and a rookie goaltender picked up his first NHL win. Here’s a recap of news and notes from last week.
SHARKS WIN TWO OF FOUR GAMES
The Sharks won two of their four games last week, sweeping the Arizona Coyotes in a two-game series, before dropping back-to-back games to the Colorado Avalanche.
KORENAR GETS FIRST NHL WIN
Goaltender Josef Korenar picked up his first NHL win on Monday against Arizona. Korenar has now played in eight games with San Jose in just over three weeks.
BLICHFELD AND GAMBRELL INJURED, SIMEK AND NIETO STILL OUT
Forwards Joachim Blichfeld and Dylan Gambrell both missed games for the Sharks last week. Blichfeld is dealing with an upper-body injury while Gambrell has been out with a foot injury. Radim Simek and Matt Nieto remained sidelined as well.
BARABANOV SCORES FIRST NHL GOAL
Trade deadline acquisition Alexander Barabanov picked up his first NHL goal in his first game with the Sharks on Monday. So far, Barabanov has two goals and four points in four games with San Jose.
As for our poll question this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:
QUESTION: Do you think Rudolfs Balcers will remain with the Sharks long-term?
(Votes: 85)
Yes: 84%
No: 16%
Given Balcers’ age and how well he’s been fitting in, I think he could certainly be with the Sharks for a number of years to come. He’ll likely be protected in the expansion draft and should remain a middle-six forward for the team.
