The New York Islanders played four games this week and the East Division playoff picture is becoming clearer. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.

ISLANDERS WIN ONE OF THREE GAMES

New York had a rough week overall, picking up just three of a possible eight points, despite facing teams who are out of the playoff picture. They were swept in a two-game series against the Buffalo Sabres, before splitting a series with the New Jersey Devils.

BAILEY AND BEAUVILLIER ON HOT STREAKS

Even though the majority of New York’s forward group has been quiet recently, Josh Bailey and Anthony Beauvillier are two forwards who have gotten hot down the stretch. Since the start of April, Bailey has three goals and 15 points in 17 games, while Beauvillier has nine goals and 16 points in 19 games.

PLAYOFF PICTURE BECOMING CLEARER

As the regular season draws to a close, the playoff picture is taking shape. The Islanders are now guaranteed to finish third or fourth in the East Division and will play either the Pittsburgh Penguins or Washington Capitals in the first round.

As for our poll questions, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: Who do you feel has been the most disappointing forward over the last month?

(Votes: 170)

Kyle Palmieri: 48%
Mathew Barzal: 34%
Jordan Eberle: 6%
Brock Nelson: 6%
Someone else: 5%

While New York’s forward group as a whole has been poor over the last month, Kyle Palmieri has been pretty disappointing since being acquired. Palmieri should have been somewhat of a spark for the Islanders’ offense, however he’s managed just two goals and four points in 16 games so far.
