Flyers Win Season Finale, 4-2

The Philadelphia Flyers closed out the 2021-22 season with a 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Military Appreciation Night at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday. The Flyers finished the campaign with a 25-23-8 overall record and a head-to-head 4-4-0 mark against New Jersey,

Over the final 38 games of the season, the Flyers scored first just 12 times and yielded the first goal in 26. On this night, the Flyers fell into an early 2-0 deficit on goals by Pavel Zacha (17th goal of the season) and Janne Kuokkanen (8th) spaced less than two minutes apart. Joel Farabee (19th) got one back later in the period.

In the second period, Sean Couturier (18th) knotted the game at 2-2. The game remained tied until the latter half of the third period. With 7:35 remaining in regulation, James van Riemsdyk (PPG, 17th) put the Flyers ahead for the first time. Farabee (20th of the season, 2nd of the game) scored a rebound insurance goal several minutes later.

Playing what may have been his final game as a Flyer, Brian Elliott got the start in goal; his 502nd game in the NHL. Elliott earned the win with 23 saves on 25 shots. Scott Wedgewood got the nod in net for New Jersey. He took the loss with 27 saves on 31 shots.

The Flyers went 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

In the days and weeks to come, we will have a series of blogs on what went went wrong this season for Philadelphia and what might happen over the offseason.

Flyers Exit Day

The Flyers are not wasting any time doing exit interviews for players and conducting media availability. The process will start on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. EDT. I will post transcripts of Chuck Fletcher, Alain Vigneault, Comcast-Spectacor president Dave Scott and players of note after the Flyers transcribe the interviews.
