As the Devils lose a 4-2 game to the Flyers their season comes to an end with a 19-30-7 record.
What a season for the Devils and an interesting one for the NHL in this COVID world. I do think the league has done a great job putting a product on the ice despite the logistical issues. Bravo.

Our beloved Devils... they surprised at times, they disappointed at times, they struggles and grew at times, they have turned the guard and gotten younger as the season went and Devils fans want more.

Before we have a blog to discuss grading players and the team, lets let the season settle in. Let's reflect what this season was all about - Growth, development and building for a brighter future.

The Devils will have their customary exit interviews today and tomorrow as they clean out their locker rooms. Many faces will return, some may not.

The rebuild continues today with a mindset towards the future. I will be looking for management comments in the coming weeks of their off-season plans for the expansion draft, the rookie Draft and free agency. A lot we will be discussing this off-season.

I will leave you with one thing; This Devils team is young, exciting, intriguing and could be something special in the not so distant future.

I think the biggest thing for this team is Asset Management. We have the major pieces that will grow together as the building of this Devils team continues.

On another note, Scott Wedgewood was voted yesterday by the Media as the team's rep for the Bill Masterson Award. The award goes to the player who best exemplifies dedication, perseverance and sportsmanship in the game of hockey.
Wedgewood certainly did as he came into this Devils team not having played an NHL team in some time, expecting to be a 3rd or 4th string goalie only to be surprised when Crawford abruptly announced his retirement prior to putting on a Devils jersey and eventually backing up Blackwood and playing 16 games in this shortened season. And doing a pretty good job considering.

The question for Wedgewood is; Did he do enough to earn another contract? Or does management have other plans for the backup spot?

I will leave you all with today's Burning Question;

How would you describe this Devils season with the least amount of words?

For me a lot of things come to mind as I am excited about which the future may bring but all I can say is - Building Block.

I also want to thank this Devils Hockeybuzz community as I was asked to step in for Cordell. Bringing a different style to the table I have been welcomed by some from my first tour of duty and met many others. Thank you.

I am also preparing to introduce a new format in my next blog. This will bring some different views and contribution while making this blog more engaging.

I will also be looking for reader contribution this off-season to add to my blog. Another way to get more involvement as I will add a comment, a view, a stat or an analisys from our readers to each blog. DM me if you would like to contribute and we can discuss.

Now, lets see this NHL season out and see who takes the Stanley Cup COVID Edition. Good luck to playoff teams.

Truly yours,
The Devils Advocate
