St Louis is out, any players of interest?I took a look at that roster as Colorado swept the Blues. The Capitals were the next to fall.

The Capitals early exit against Boston will benefit Detroit immediately in terms of a higher draft pick. The trade that saw Vrana come over immediately increased team speed and scoring. Washington is in the position where more is expected, and changes are inevitable. They are going to look to trades and the free agent market to try and reload and improve. Detroit has the luxury to be able to take on salary if needed while the team collects picks and/or prospects to continue the build.

Here are some players off of Washington’s current roster that may be available. Let me know your thoughts on who (if anyone) could be a good fit for what Steve Yzerman is building in Detroit.

Evgeny Kuznetsov - 29 year old center with 4 more seasons at 7.8 million, it’s tough to see the fit for Detroit. A tough season and some off ice issues have thrown Kuznetsov into the rumor mill as a trade candidate.

T.J. Oshie - at 34, plays center and right wing, and 4 more seasons at 5.75 per. T.J. Will probably best be remembered for some incredible shootout prowess that actually led to a “Damn Yankees” headline in the Canadian press. Oshie is a character guy who put up 22 goals in the shortened season. Washington doesn’t currently have him on the block, but anything goes.

Lars Eller - 32 year old center, 2 more seasons at 3.5 million. This is a depth center who played a big role in Washington’s cup win. His age and salary would likely mean picks or prospects would have to be included

Carl Hagelin - 32 year old wing with 2 years left at 2.75 million. Still can skate, scoring seems to be on the decline.

Brenden Dillon - 30 year old left defense. 3 more years at 3.9 million. Dillon was a much loved defensive d man in San Jose. Karlsson and Burns both wanted him on their pairing. Could be a stabilizing blue line presence to pair with a more offensive minded D

Justin Schultz will be a UFA, but I’m not sure if he’d want to come to Detroit at this point. If he doesn’t re sign with Washington, he may want to go and be part of another contender.

Here’s the Cap Friendly link for Washington. I left out players I don’t think will be moved or available. Let me know if you see any potential fits, or what “sweetener” it would take to bring on some of the veteran contracts.
