Seattle Kraken To Select 2nd Overall In 2021 NHL Draft

Great news today for the Seattle Kraken franchise! Wednesday evening, the NHL Draft Lottery took place. As I mentioned in a previous blog, the Draft Lottery was changed for this season making only the first two spots for the draft up for grabs. The Buffalo Sabres won out to select 1st overall but the Seattle Kraken moved up from the third highest odds and will draft 2nd overall on July 23rd.

Currently Owen Power is the favourite to be selected 1st overall but with this COVID season scouts have had issues being able to follow players as they normally would. This could make for some very interesting selections as some scouts may favor certain players far more than another franchise does.

Currently I would select centre/winger Matthew Beniers out of Michigan who is an excellent shooter who led his team in goals as a 17 year old. Regardless a variety of options are now open for the Kraken and this gives GM Ron Francis either one more exciting player that will join the 32nd NHL team, or perhaps an enticing asset to use as a trade piece. Time will tell.
