Mo Seider is getting good ice time at the IIHF Worlds Championship. was a recent entry about Detroit’s top defensive prospect.
And then, I wrote
Moritz Seider reminds me of Jiri Fischer. And now, I have a problem. Mo keeps garnering awards. He was awarded Rookie of the year in the SHL (which Jackie told us all was a fake award, so please keep that in mind.). Mo then received defenseman of the year, and I rambled on a bit about him being 19 for most of the season. I was shot down a bit (by Jackie) for mentioning Mo’s name as one of the best players not currently in the NHL. Apparently Elite Prospects isn’t the best source for determining elite prospects.
Regardless, Mo was voted “Best Defenseman” by the Tournament Directorate and voted to the All Star team by the media. I’m bracing myself for the conspiracy theory on these, Jackie, so make sure you fill us in.
I’m obviously teasing a bit. The point it, Mo is filling his resume with accolades and still has a chip on his shoulder. He hates losing, he wants to be a leader, and he keeps track of who called him “overrated” and told him he was picked too high in the draft. Man, it’s hard not to like this kid.
I promise you that the next three months of summer fill won’t be non stop articles about Seider. I know he likes peanut butter (says it changed his life), but that’s about it for deep personal truths. Brace yourselves, because nearly every question this coming training camp will be about or directed toward Mo Seider. He’s fantastic in interviews, so there’s no worry there. He’s going to have his own paparazzi in Detroit, and you’re going to get flooded with information (or factoids pretending to be information).
So, look down the list of his achievements this past year. Are there any that strike you as being more meaningful than others? The pool at the IIHF was a bit shallow this year, but I do think Mo earned his spot. I don’t know where he’s going to start (in terms of which pairing in Detroit. Unless he gets injured I can’t see a reality that sees him start in GR). I want to give you all a chance to guess on this. There may be a prize involved, but it’s a long way off. Here’s what I want you to lay out:
Who will Mo be paired with?
Which special teams will he be on (PP1, PP2, PK, etc)
What will his minutes look like for the first 2 weeks of the season?
I’ll kick it off with the thought that he’ll be paired with an acquisition (Dunn?)
He’ll be getting just shy of 20 minutes per night
They’ll start him on PP2 and PK2
If he stays healthy, he could end up being tied for top minutes by season’s end.
The prize will be “Seider” related. If they do a bobble head, it will be that. If not, it will be either a shirt or hoodie (your choice). This is the coolest giveaway I’ve ever attempted, so put your stamp on this one.
Let me know how you project the big man. Team leader in hits? 10 goals? 35 points? All guesses are welcome. I really look forward to the coming season, it should be fun.
