It is a sad day here in the State of Hockey as Wild assistant GM, Tom Kurvers lost his battle with lung cancer.

Kurvers was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer shortly after joining the Wild front office. He was a very talented hockey player and equally adept on the player personnel front as well.

Kurvers won the 1984 Hobey Baker award winner while playing for the UMD Bulldogs. He was the first Bulldog to capture the top collegiate player honor and set school scoring records for defenseman (43 goals and 192 points).

He won a Stanley Cup with the Canadiens in 1986 and played 11 seasons in the NHL, racking up 421 points in 659 games.

Following Kurvers' playing days he began his front office career spending 11 years with the Coyotes before moving on to become assistant GM in Tampa and then transitioning to senior advisor to GM, Steve Yzerman.

Kurvers joined the Wild in 2018 shortly before his cancer diagnosis.

Kurvers will be sorely missed and our prayers and well wishes go out to his wife, Heather and their four children and extended families.
