Nieto is 28 years old and scored five goals and seven points in 28 games this year, but missed the back half of the season while dealing with a lower-body injury. He's played in 500 NHL games, split between the Sharks and the Colorado Avalanche, scoring 67 goals and 158 points.
I like the decision to re-sign Nieto and I thought he was a strong member of the bottom-six before getting hurt. He’s a hard worker who was strong on the forecheck and has some offensive upside, being consistently good for a pace of about 20-25 points per 82 games. He could be a decent member of the fourth line going forward and considering the price and term on the deal, the contract carries no risk. He’ll also help San Jose in terms of their expansion draft requirements, qualifying as one of the team’s two forwards who need to meet the minimum number of games played required to be exposed.
