The Stanley Cup Final starts tomorrow, this morning, Marc Bergevin told the media that Joel Armia was not practicing with the team because he was on the Covid protocol, which means he will not be travelling with the team this afternoon. While Armia has been an integral part of the Canadiens’ efficient 4th line, it’s by no means time to panic. Bergevin has said over and over that his team has plenty of depth and they’ll get to prove it once again.
At practice, Jake Evans was filling in for Armia on the 4th line. Since he’s been cleared to contact a few days ago and he can provide another faceoff option and chip in on the penalty killing. The other option would have been to dress Tomas Tatar and reunite him with Gallagher and Danault while putting Lehkonen down to the 4th line, but considering how well he’s done in a shut down role with those 2, why break them up? Furthermore, I’ve said it often,
Lehkonen always gives his 100% which cannot be said about Tatar in the playoffs in the last few years and when Tatar isn’t scoring, he’s not bringing much to the table.
Hopefully, this will remain an isolated case and no other player will test positive. It should be noted that for now, there are irregularities with his test but he's not yet on the Covid protocol, we'll see if it's confirmed later. Considering the whole team has been vaccinated now, we at least know that they shouldn’t be massively affected if they did catch it, but it could still be an issue if too many players are affected.
This morning, the Canadiens players will be taking part in the NHL media day and they’ll be answering questions from 10:15 AM, you can watch at the link provided by Elliot Friedman in this tweet:
