Duncan Keith You Say...... |
|

|
Well guys today is my last day of vacation and I'm getting ready to head back home. It's amazing what a long vacation does for the body, mind, and spirit. Once I took the time to relax I realized how much stress I was carrying and letting go of all of it I feel like a new man. I'm ready to start writing again and take a calm approach to the team....
Oh.... Duncan Keith you say.... Oilers are the frontrunners to acquire him you say.... a package for him would likely include Caleb Jones who only costs 800,000 is almost two decades younger and an RFA afterwords you say.....
Welp vacation is over.
I cannot stress how absolutely mind boggling awful this would be for the Edmonton Oilers. Keith is 38 years old and continues on the decline. He has two years left on his deal at 5.5 million dollars. To say he is past his prime would be a gross understatement. His contract is essentially buyout proof to the point where only an idiot would think to acquire him. Enter the wonderful scamps that are the Edmonton Oilers.
Even to have Keith as a third pairing option on the left side makes little sense. Between Jones, Koekkoek, and Russell the Oilers have guys that fit that spot fine. Perhaps a lateral trade where the Oilers send Neal to Chicago for Keith in a lateral move would be okay but even then the Neal deal is easier to buyout.
Of course on top of that you have members of the Oilers mainstream media praising this as a great move. Heralding Keith as a former Norris worthy player, three time Cup winner, great in the locker room, knows what it takes to win, mentor, the list goes on. Do you know what those same guys aren't talking about? What he can do on the ice as a player right now. Watching these guys dance around to try and justify every single bad move this team makes is honestly hilarious.
Holland spoke in his post season presser about acquiring greybeards and its clear he will be true to his words. Edmonton is in their window to win right now, they have bountiful amounts of cap space and they are going to use a good chunk of it to bring in Duncan Keith about eight years too late. This would be a major misstep and Oilers fans should be praying to whatever powers they pray to that this deal falls through and Edmonton stays as far as possible away from this player.
Vacation's over.
