Jets fans have their say

Last week I asked Jets fans what moves the Jets should make this season. Below are some of their answers and my thoughts about them.

I'll have a part two, later next week!

Rexypoo says "[Trade] Wheeler for Tarasenko.

I don't see an instance where Tarasenko remains with the Blues. It's pretty clear he was upset when Ryan O'Riley was named team captain. And now, according to reports, he's upset with the organization and the way they handled his shoulder surgeries in 2018 and 2019. This is becoming a common theme, eh?

There's certainly going to be plenty of teams lining up to pitch their best offer to St. Louis in hopes of landing Tarasenko.

Wheeler is an interesting option here, but let's not forget he has a full no movement clause and would have to accept a deal to St. Louis, or anywhere else for that matter.

Teams like the Islanders, Bruins Rangers and potentially Vegas if they can clear some salary, will be interested and can offer younger options than what the Jets would be offering in Wheeler.

As much as I think Wheeler would be a good fit in St. Louis, it's hard to see him waiving his NMC to head there, and, the Jets being able to offer more than other teams, or the Blues having more interest in Wheeler than some of the younger options that will be offered to them.

TheUltimateJet says "Fire Paul Maurice and the entire coaching staff."

So you're saying you're not a fan of Maurice?

I do think Maurice is on the hot seat entering the 2021-22 season, but if they were going to fire him prior to the season, obviously it would have been done by now.

My guess on Maurice and him still holding a job behind the Jets bench despite little success in the postseason is the organization giving him a pass on these past two playoff runs.

Who knows what would have happened in the bubble two seasons ago had the Jets not lost the firepower they lost. And as for this year, losing Scheifele to suspension, combined with health issues once again, really changed the course of the series for the Jets.

Now I know injuries happen to everyone, and it's up to Maurice and the coaches to navigate around it and win with they have, but I think the organization wants to give Maurice one more chance at showing what he can do.

jjonah says "Sign RHD David Savard and LHD Jamie Oleksiak"

This I would be very on board with.

I don't think many really knew what David Savard could bring to the table until he was traded to Tampa Bay, playing a key role in their run to their second straight Stanley Cup. But i've been a fan of his game for a while now. He's a guy who can play a huge role in your top-four, and is a guy who eats pucks for a living, being a complete shot blocking machine.

The Jets are clearly in need of a LHD, and Oleksiak would fill that need. He mostly filled a second pairing role with the Stars alongside Miro Heiskanen, giving the Stars a nice second pair on their blue line.

The hard hitting defenseman is coming off a season that saw him log a career-high 20:28 of ice time per game.

Quillanrocks says "Don't re-sign Stastny. Let's not muddle up who our second-line center is. Commit to Dubois and see where it gets us."

It's hard to see Stastny back in Winnipeg next season, and that should make Pierre-Luc Dubois a more effective player.

I think part of Dubois' struggles last season was in large part due to inconstancies with linemates, and being asked to play the wing at times.

By moving on from Stastny, you secure Duboid into that second line center spot, and hope to find him some consistency on the wing.

The only way I could see Stastny back in Winnipeg is in a bottom-six role, playing in the middle behind Scheifele, Dubois and potentially Lowry.

grahamzky says Sign UFA goalie $1.5M per

Obviously with Laurent Brossoit a free agent, the Jets will need to address their backup goalie situation. For $1.5M you're obviously not looking at anything too special. Someone in the category of Curtis McElhinney, Brian Elliott, Carter Hutton, or Brossoit coming back.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Jets go a little higher with what they're willing to spend on a backup, and bringing in a more talented backup, one that could give Hellebuyck some rest, forming more of a 1A/1B type, or even a A/B rotation.

James Reimer, Jaroslav Halak, David Rittich and Antti Raanta could be options here.

JetsAvs says "Could Buffalo consider moving Dahlin? Perfetti, Heinola and a 1st?"

This is a really interesting suggestion. Considering that Jack Eichel could have played his last game in Buffalo, rebuilding on the Sabres rebuild (is that a thing?) could have the Sabres moving players like Dahlin before it's time to pay them.

Keep in mind Dahlin is a pending RFA.

I love Dahlin's potential, but feel he's be hampered in Buffalo, a move out of town could be exactly what he needs.

Perfetti, Heinola and a 1st is a big price to pay for Dahlin, but if the Jets could get the Sabres to add a player like Victor Olofsson to add some depth on the wings, this could be a fit for both teams.
