The day has arrived! Tonight we will learn about our 32nd NHL team and today we will be hearing all sorts of speculation and rumors, and maybe even signings as the day progresses...
Start here...
It is very much sounding like the Ron Francis has decided to NOT select Carey Price. We can debate whether or not this is the right move or not, but it is not surprising given Francis has shown himself to be ver conservative...
Per sources, the Kraken are working to try and sign a half a dozen UFAs today, and if they do sign them prior to the official opening of the signing season, a week from today, those players become the pick for the teams they are signed away from.
The advantage for the Kraken is their ability to negotiate with these UFA's without anyone else jumping in. The game they can play here is within the rules, but some teams are not happy about it at all.
Take Jaden Schwartz or Gabriel Landeskog... The Kraken get to talk to the UFAs early, and if they feel comfortable with that player they could delay the actual signing until next Wednesday...they do risk other teams being able to get involved, but this gives them a chance to also claim a signed player or an RFA from the teams unprotected list. Of course they also risk the UFA getting cold feet and going elsewhere or re-upping with his current team...
Who are the UFA's Seattle is seriously talking to?
This my current list and will be added to throughout the day...
Jaden Schwartz
Phillip Danault
Jamie Oleksiak
Chris Driedger
Adam Larsson (update: deal may be done)
Dougie Hamilton
Gabriel Landeskog
Barclay Goodrow
and I have even heard
Freddy Andersen's name mentioned.
We will be doing a podcast at 1pm and also tonight during the selection show, where we can be your second screen...
