The sport of hockey can be called goalie… It’s so true. The final 4 this year saw 3 of the highest paid goalies in the NHL. And that is not a coincidence…. Five other teams, who all feel they have a legit shot at being a Cup contender, took notice and all have made signing a keeper #1 priority.
On Colorado…
First glance, this looked obvious. Grubauer was outstanding for them last year, but losing 4 straight to Vegas left everything a bit iffy…I still feel that Grubauer stays, but the fact he hasn’t signed yet is intriguing. At least one of the teams below is rumored to have interest if he makes it to free agency on Wednesday…
On Toronto…
The Leafs have gone to well enough with Andersen and its time for a change. Jack Campbell won the starter job last season, but his playoff performance was less than spectacular in some key moments and the Leafs missed a definite chance at a Cup. From all I’ve heard they like Holtby (4.3M )and Fleury ($7M) is just too expensive.. , but both would cost them more than they might be willing to pay and both have a big cap hit.. Their main target appears to be Darcy Kuemper ($4.5M) from Phoenix
On Edmonton
The Oilers like Andersen and Grubauer. The fact they traded out of getting a solid goalie of the future in the opening round of the draft tells me they are looking to signs a keeper for 5 years….Both Andersen and Grubauer are game changers in Edmonton. They have also got interest in Ulmark, but I have heard that he is close to re-signing in Buffalo.
On Pittsburgh…
The Penguins would have to get creative, but their first choice would be Marc-Andre Fleury…If Vegas is willing to make that move…And trading Fleury I have heard is directly connected to whether or not the Knights can get in on Eichel. The Penguins also like Andersen quite a bit…
On Carolina…
The Canes like Andersen and Grubauer….but they also like Mrazek…. Andersen will definitely be their big push…Kuemper will cost a first round pick…
