The Carolina Hurricanes made 13 picks in the 2021 NHL Draft this past weekend, all taking place in rounds 2-7.
The Hurricanes’ goal was clearly to acquire as many picks as possible, as they made six separate trades during the two-day draft. I won’t list them out individually, but here’s a recap of which picks came in and went out, when all was said and done.
It was an interesting strategy to acquire as many picks as possible but we’ll see how it works out. Quantity isn’t necessarily better than quality and considering the Hurricanes are looking to contend, it could have been more worthwhile to take fewer picks in a better position, to fill in any remaining cracks in the roster. Regardless, they picked a strategy and stuck to it.
