The draft is over and the news is still rolling in from around the hockey world. Day two of the draft came with the following players:

D Stanislav Svozil
D Gulliame Richard
D Nikolai Makarov
F James Malatesta
F Ben Boyd
F Martin Rysavy

Svozil and Malatesta have potential to be steals from this draft, and they’re being positioned in the best prospect pool they own since before 2019 and the full buy-in towards the postseason.

Columbus traded winger Cam Atkinson to the Philadelphia Flyers for winger Jakub Voracek. The deal was one for one with no salary retention.

Camsanity leaves behind a monumental legacy as being one of the best forwards in franchise history. In 627 games played with Columbus, he scored 213 goals and 189 helpers for 402 points; and 26 points in 35 games (10 goals, 16 assists). Games played; goals; and points he is second all time in production behind Rick Nash; but he was first all time in short handed goals with 16 and hat tricks with 6 in his career. Atkinson was a steal as a draft pick, but he was being overshadowed in ice time and production by Patrik Laine and its now his time to score
in Columbus.

Jakub Voracek returns to the team that drafted him in 2007, and was part of the infamous Jeff Carter deal in 2011. Voracek had 604 points (177 goals, 427 assists) with the Flyers in his ten year career. His $8.25M contract has three years left, and he is being brought in to dish the picks to Laine like he did Giroux.

Speaking of Laine, him; Alexandre Texier; Andrew Peeke; Jake Bean; and Calvin Thurkauf were extended qualifying offers, to be with the team for another season. Cliff Pu and Kole Sherwood were not given qualifying offers and are now unrestricted free agents.

All the moves are making the motivation to build the team around Laine, and get him to score goals. That is his team up front; Zach Werenski’s defensive group; and anybody’s net whether it be Korpi, Merzi, or Tasarov.

This draft has four or five guys that may make the Jackets over the next couple of seasons.
