Forward Danton Heinen is set to become an unrestricted free agent, after the Anaheim Ducks chose not to issue him a qualifying offer to retain his player rights.

Heinen was originally acquired from the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline last year, in exchange for forward Nick Ritchie. In 52 games during his time with the Ducks, Heinen scored 10 goals and 18 points, a pace of 16 goals and 28 points per 82 games. He’s coming off a two-year contract, which carried a $2.8 million AAV.

While it was a disappointing season for Heinen, I was still torn on whether I wanted to see him back with the Ducks. He has the potential to be a solid middle-six forward but with him now being 26 years old and in need of a new contract, re-signing him may not have made a ton of sense for Anaheim.
