The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Phillip Danault and defenseman Alex Edler, and have also re-signed forward Andreas Athanasiou.

Danault is 28 years old has spent the last five and half seasons with the Montreal Canadiens and was a key part of the Canadiens’ playoff success this season. He posted five goals and 24 points in 53 regular season games this season, a pace of seven goals and 37 points per 82 games, however, he scored at a rate of around 55 points per 82 games in the two previous seasons.

His deal is six years long and carries a $5.5 million cap hit. Danault is one of the best defensive centers in the league and could be a long-term, third-line center for Los Angeles.

The Kings have also signed veteran defenseman Alex Edler. The defender, who's now 35 years old, has spent his entire career with the Canucks, scoring eight points in 52 games this past season. The contract is for one year and will carry a $3.5 million cap hit.

Athanasiou joined the Kings as a free agent last year and scored 10 goals and 23 points in 47 games this season, a pace of 17 goals and 40 points per 82 games. He’s 26 years old and his one-year deal will carry a $2.7 million cap hit.
