Quick Hits: August 4, 2021

1) Later today, Wednesday, the Flyers Community Caravan will appear in Doylestown, PA. As with last year, it will be done in a mobile-pep-rally format and feature Flyers Alumni (Brad Marsh and Bob Kelly), Gritty, Andrea Helfrich, the Flyers Ice Team. Beginning at 4 p.m. ET, the caravan entourage will travel along a one-and-a-half-mile route. Attendees will have a chance to get various Flyers-themed giveaways, including bucket hats, flip flops, sunglasses straps, tank tops, beach towels and more. The next Caravan event will be in Ocean City, NJ, on Aug. 17, 2021. Today's route is posted below:

2) Today in Flyers History: In order to make room under the newly created NHL salary cap to accommodate recently signed unrestricted free agent center Peter Forsberg, the Flyers had to move out veteran Jeremy Roenick. On Aug. 4, 2005, the Flyers traded Roenick and Nashville's previously acquired 2006 third-round draft pick to the LA Kings for future considerations.

3) Today in Flyers History: The Flyers made an ill-fated trade on Aug. 4, 2006, sending two-way center Michal Handzus to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Kyle Calder. Calder was coming off a 25-goal, 59-point season for the Blackhawks the previous year but struggled both on and off the ice during a 59-game stint with the Flyers in 2006-07. On Feb. 26, 2007, the Flyers dealt Calder back to Chicago in exchange for defenseman Lasse Kukkonen and a 2007 third-round pick (Garrett Klotz). The Hawks then quickly flipped Calder to Detroit for Jason Williams to complete a three-team trade.

4) The Flyers Alumni Association has announced the coaches and rosters for the upcoming 2021 Alumni Fantasy Camp tournament at the Class of 1923 Arena on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The coaches are Ian Laperriere and John LeClair for Team Toyota, Bill Barber and Mark Howe for Team River Rock Academy, Danny Briere and Keith Jones for Team Yuengling and the trio of Dave Poulin, Joe Watson and Brad Marsh for Team New Balance. The playing rosters are posted below.

Even if you are not participating (or know someone participating) in the Fantasy Camp, the daily practices and games are open and free to attend. Each year, the assorted Flyers Alumni coaches interact with fans and sign autographs when non conducting on-ice business, and there are usually some fans who come out for that purpose.
