The San Jose Sharks have signed goaltender Adin Hill to a two-year contract, which carries a $2.175 million cap hit.

Hill is 25 years old and was acquired from the Arizona Coyotes a couple of weeks ago (along with a seventh-round pick), in exchange for a second-round pick and goaltender Josef Korenar. He’s played 49 career NHL games over the last four seasons with Arizona, posting a .909 save percentage. The expectation is that the Sharks will attempt to transition Hill into a starting role.

While it’s a relatively minor deal, this is a fair contract for both sides. The two-year term allows the team to see a larger sample size of play before committing to the netminder, and also for Hill to prove that he could be capable of becoming a starter and earning a long-term deal. The AAV is reasonable as well and spending under $4.5 million total for both Hill and James Reimer is a win for the Sharks.
