A couple of signings on Friday for Seattle; an RFA and a UFA. First off the Kraken have signed former Wild forward Marcus Johansson to a one year deal worth 1.5 million dollars. Johansson's best season came earlier in his career with the Capitals, posting a couple 20+ goal seasons as well as others in the 13-17 goal range. After he was traded to the Devils back in 2017 his numbers started to drop off. He moved from New Jersey, to Boston, to Buffalo, to Minnesota over the span of just a few years.

At this stage of his career, Johannson is a third line winger who isn't a great asset defensively or at generating chances but he does still possess a strong ability to finish which is something this Kraken team does still lack up front. Johansson also does possess the ability to play centre but his faceoff numbers have never been great but it is one more player who can rotate if needed. It's a low risk signing that could end up paying some decent dividends for Seattle.

Next up was the announcement that Vince Dunn had agreed to a two year deal worth 4 million a season. To be honest this isn't an ideal contract for the Kraken. Dunn at only 24 years of age has the makings of a solid top four defenseman. He moves the puck exceptionally well and has strong instincts in the offensive end. He is skilled both on the powerplay and at even strength in this regard. Injuries hurt him last season but a healthy Dunn could be the Kraken's own version of Shea Theodore.

The two year deal will place Dunn as a UFA at the end of it and seeing the raises that top blue line producers are getting right now, in two years Dunn could be getting a hefty paycheck. I suppose to glass half full thinking is if he is set to get another big pay raise it will be because he has been a great option for the Kraken.
