The Los Angeles Kings are reportedly expected to resume talks on a contract extension with goaltender Cal Petersen later this month, according to The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta.

According to Pagnotta, the Kings are looking to sign Petersen to a long-term deal.

Petersen is 26 years old and has a single year remaining on his contact, at a $858,333 cap hit. The netminder has played a total of 54 NHL games and this past season, Petersen registered a .911 save percentage in 35 games with Los Angeles.

It’s encouraging to hear the Kings are being proactive in negotiating an extension with Petersen. He’s positioned to take over as the team’s long-term starter and while he does have a fairly limited sample size of work to go off of, the Kings shouldn’t be afraid to give him some term on his next deal.
