Avalanche Sign Veteran D Jack Johnson To PTO + a Rockies Return?

A couple quick hits today ....

It's been as quiet as a mouse over the last several weeks for the Colorado Avalanche. As has been the case for much of the league. New month. New-season. New Business. With NHL camps just weeks away the league and the Avs are back at work.

Jack Johnson agreed to join the Avs for the upcoming training camp. The vet D played 13 games and scored one goal with the Rangers last season.

The Jack Johnson jokes are endless and he hasn't looked much like a serviceable defenseman since 2016-17. But, a new environment in a reduced role may not be such a bad thing.

The vet is approaching a major NHL milestone and he could do it as an Av - if he makes the team.

Did you know Johnson is approaching 1,000 NHL games? Same.

The 34-year-old and former 3rd overall pick (2005) has 303 career points (71g 232a) in 950 games over 15 seasons with four different organizations (LAK, CBJ, PIT, NYR). I would have never guessed he was that close to a big NHL milestone.

Wonders never cease.

...

One more thing. Is Colorado hinting at another throwback-type uniform of historical value?

The Rockies (NJD) and the Avalanche (QUE) are not the same organization but the Colorado hockey roots bond them for eternity.

Personally, I love the idea and we know how great the Rockies uniforms were. It would be a great mash-up and one that would be another sure-fire money maker.

What do you think? Are you okay with paying homage to the defunct Rockies?

Thanks for reading,
Steve
