I’m just going to leave the title simple for this one. This cannon fodder is explosive. Let’s just jump into the details of this fiasco in Nationwide Arena.
As training and development camps are getting underway, it has come out this morning from Aaron Portzline of the Athletic of a dispute between former assistant coach Sylvain Lefebvre and the Columbus Blue Jackets and the National Hockey League mandates about the COVID-19 mandatory vaccinations, leading to his reported firing by Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalainen.
The dispute has been leaked as Lefebvre said he quit, where Kekalainen has stated otherwise to the press. This was his attempt to be an assistant coach in the NHL, after recently coaching the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League, who is affiliated with the Montreal Canadiens. The dismissal came as a result of Lefebvre refusing to get vaccinated, and the NHL is telling coaches and management to get it to keep their jobs, hence the firing.
Steve McCarthy was named the replacement hours later, as part of the internal promotions within the organization. McCarthy was part of the Cleveland Monsters, and is now full time in Columbus instead for this season.
Thoughts on the sudden change? More to come.
