Just like in a regular camp, the rookie camp started with some physical performance testing off-ice yesterday, so today, the rookies finally got to hit the ice. Rafael Harvey-Pinard got to lead the stretching session before practice started and the Rocket new coaching staff lead by Jean-François Houle then took over to put the rookies through their paces. On top of the coaching staff, both Francis Bouillon and Rob Ramage from the department of player development were on the ice, taking a close look at what was going on.
If you are curious to see what the baby Habs can do, you should tune in to the Senators’ Youtube channel Saturday at 4:00 PM as the Canadiens’ rookies will be taking on the Senators’ rookies. Of course, we don’t know yet which players will be dressed, but I’m thinking that guys who have a legitimate shot at making the big camp will probably be given their first opportunity to shine there. I fully expect Norlinder to be dressed and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Harvey-Pinard, Mysak and Guhle either.
Yesterday, Dave Stubbs published an interview with Carey Price on NHL.com and while I didn’t learn much by reading it, Price did confirm that he has yet to resume skating following the knee operation he had earlier this Summer. The Habs’ netminder also confirmed that he had a thorn meniscus and that the surgical team went in to clean that up, the fact that there was no ligament damage to repair is rather encouraging. Today on Twitter though, Marc-André Perreault tweeted a video of Price taking his first strides since going under the knife. With a month to go before the season kick off, it seems that his recovery is going as planned and that he should be ready for the big night on October 13th. That is a very good news for the Habs, perhaps not for the rest of the league though.
Tout comme pour un camp d’entraînement régulier, le camp des recrues s’est ouvert avec des tests physiques hors glace hier, donc aujourd’hui, les recrues ont finalement eu le plaisir de se retrouver sur la glace. C’est Rafael Harvey-Pinard qui a eu l’honneur de mener la séance d’étirements avant que le nouveau personnel d’entraîneurs du Rocket mené par l’entraîneur-chef Jean-François Houle prenne les choses en main. En plus du personnel d’entraîneurs, Francis Bouillon et Rob Ramage du département du développement des joueurs suivaient l’action d’un œil intéressé.
Si vous êtes curieux de voir ce que les “bébés Habs” peuvent faire, vous devriez regardez la chaine Youtube des Sénateurs samedi à 4:00 PM puisque le match mettant aux prises les recrues du CH et celles des Sens y sera diffuse. Bien sûr, nous ne savons pas encore quels joueurs seront en uniforme, mais je crois que les joueurs qui ont des chances de faire le camp du CH se verront donner leur première opportunité de briller. J’anticipe que Norlinder sera en uniforme et je ne serais pas surprise de voir Harvey-Pinard, Mysak et Guhle.
Hier, Dave Stubbs a publié une entrevue avec Carey Price sur NHL.com et bien que je n’aie pas appris grand-chose en la lisant, Pice a confirmé qu’il n’avait pas encore recommencé à patiner suivant l’opération au genou qu’il a subi cet été. Le gardien du CH a également confirmé que c’est en raison d’une déchirure méniscale qu’il a dû passer sous le bistouri. Le fait qu’il n’y avait pas de dommage ligamentaire à réparer est des plus encourageant. Aujourd’hui sur Twitter toutefois, Marc-André Perreault a gazouillé un vidéo de Carey Price prenant ses premiers coups de patins post opération. Avec un mois à faire avant le début de la saison, il semble que la récupération de Price se passe bien et soit conforme à l’échéancier initialement annoncé. Il sera donc vraisemblablement prêt pour l’ouverture du calendrier régulier contre les Leafs le 13 octobre. Il s’agit d’une excellente nouvelle pour le CH, pas pour le reste de la ligue toutefois.
