50 minutes of EMDR on ice - the boys are back in town

So, what is EMDR? In the early 2000s some different types of psychology were introduced and became part of a new trend that is in full swing today. A therapist was “processing” some of her own issues in a park, and watching a squirrel run back and forth. She noticed that she had made peace with something that had bothered her for years. Of course, it became a journey to understand why that happened.

Most of you are familiar with R.E.M. (both the band and the type of sleep). Your eyes move rapidly side to side as you sleep when you enter that mode. For some reason, it allows short term memory to process into long term memory. The therapist came up with a theory. Trauma, in part, is something that can’t be properly processed from short term to long term. And so, while working with patients, she came up with exercises that had them focusing on different points in the room while they discussed trauma. The results were very encouraging.

And so, today, I know that many of you, like me, have been flat out traumatized the past 2 years. We do our best to push it down and push it to the side. Watch these drills, watch the skaters go back and forth and let some of the stress just flow out of you. Try moving just your eyes (if possible). Put this on the biggest screen possible. It’s a blessing and a gift to watch the boys fly up and down the ice.

Quick hits of interest - Zadina skated on a line with Bertuzzi and Larkin. That may be due to Vrana being held up. Even if it’s not, that is a fascinating line. That could have Vrana with Suter and Fabbri. Just watch for chemistry. Seider did skate with Leddy (Leddy or not, here comes Mo). It was awesome to see Raymond out there. I love the number 23. In my short (and pathetic) middle school basketball career, I was allowed to wear 23 for a couple games. My school colors (Milan, Michigan) were red and black. Boy, I should have been embarrassed to wear Jordan’s number but it was a thrill for a nerdy kid with glasses. That just felt cool.

Adam Erne (shout out to Kooleus) is mentioned as having grabbed a power play spot. Stephens is looking like the 4th line center. I wish i was there in Traverse City, to be sure. I’d be losing my mind buying swag (the store there is really nice). Take a watch and let me know what you think.

Please be good to yourselves and enjoy this today. For the first time in a while, it feels almost normal and that is a feeling that I’ve missed.
